Concept Seating was Born out of Necessity
In 1988 a Mequon, WI police officer was suffering from back problems and had enough. He designed and produced rough sketches of a new, innovative vehicle seat for squad cars that helped relieve back problems.
Because of this, it should be no surprise that Concept Seating chair design was heavily influenced by the innovative research presented by Alvin R. Tilley and Henry Dreyfuss & Associates’ The Measure of Man and Woman: Human Factors in Design. This often-updated text remains an important guide for those designing products to accommodate the human form.
From that original need to solve officer back pain, Concept Seating, Inc. was founded in 1991 and started manufacturing and selling the Pro Copper as ergonomic seats for police squad cars. In 1995 a patent was granted for seat design. Notably, the unique cutout design that accommodates a gun belt and avoids the belt from pressing against its wearer when seated.
